Competition Rules 2006-2007

  1. The Competition shall run every year between 1st October and 31st March, with the exception that the 2006-2007 Competition shall run between 13th December 2006 and 31st March 2007.
  1. Competitors may shoot one or more Portsmouth rounds (60 arrows @ 20 yards, 60cm target face) per month, for each month of the competition, and their best Portsmouth round score for that month shall be ranked against those of their fellow competitors.
  1. Competitors shall not submit more than one Portsmouth round per week to the Club's Records Officer for inclusion in the Competition.
  1. Competitors shall submit their score sheets for each round to the Club’s Records Officer. Each score sheet shall include a total for each end of the round, an overall total score, the total number of hits scored, and the total number of Golds (which, shall be taken as inner and outer 10s in accordance with the GNAS Rules of Shooting) scored. Score sheets shall be signed by the competitor, and, if the shooting of the round has not been witnessed by the Club’s Records Officer, shall be countersigned by another archer who witnessed the round being shot.
  1. At the end of each month, Competitors’ best Portsmouth score shall be ranked against those submitted by other Competitors that month, and points shall be awarded to the following scheme: Competitors shall be awarded one point per score they submit to the Club’s Records Officer, and this shall be multiplied by an inverse-ranking of their best score against the other competitors’ best scores for that month.

For example, if Competitor A submits one score to the Club’s Records Officer, and that score happens to be the highest score submitted out of five competitors who also each submitted one score that month, Competitor A shall be awarded five points (and the next highest, four points; the next, three, and so on), but if there were six competitors, the highest-placed competitor would be awarded six points.

However, if Competitor B, whose best score for the same month is the lowest out of the five submitted (thus scoring one point) had submitted four scores for that month, Competitor B would be awarded four points (1 point for last place, multiplied by four (scores submitted)), and, assuming all other competitors had each only submitted one score that month, would thus be tied for second place for that month.
  1. Competitors’ points, Portsmouth scores, number of hits, and number of golds for each month shall be added to give an overall total for the Competition; the highest three, as well as the highest-placed novice (with less than six months experience at the start of the competition) shall be eligible for prizes. Any ties in points totals shall be resolved by Competitors’ scores totals (the highest shall prevail), and if the tie still remains unbroken, it shall be resolved by Competitors’ golds totals (the highest shall prevail). In the highly-unlikely event that the tie remains unbroken, it shall be resolved by the toss of a coin.
  1. A current copy of Rules and overall rankings for the Winter Series Competition shall be published on the Club’s website as soon as possible after the end of each month’s competition. In the interests of transparency and fair play, the Rules may be reviewed and subject to change during the Competition.
