New! Club Challenge Ladder Rules 2007 New!

  1. The Island Archers Club Challenge Ladder (‘the Tournament’) shall run from 10th January 2007 until the last club shooting session before Christmas, on or around 19th December 2007. The tournament, which may be shot during normal club shooting sessions, and may be part of other competitions, shall consist of a series of matches between competitors to determine their position within the rankings at the end of the tournament. The highest-ranking competitor, the competitor with the highest points total, highest-placed novice (defined as a competitor with less than twelve months archery experience when they joined the tournament), and the competitor judged by the Tournament Organiser to be best improved throughout the tournament, will be eligible for prizes at the end of the tournament.
  2. Competitors may challenge anyone within the current rankings to a match any time, up to, and including, the start of the next Wednesday club shooting session. However, no competitor may issue a challenge to another against whom they have previously competed unless they have first contested matches against two other competitors.
  3. More than one challenge may be issued within a single club shooting session, but any additional challenge shall not be issued until after any pending challenge match has been resolved.
  4. Competitors shall not decline to participate in a match with another unless they cannot attend a club shooting session due to holiday, business or family arrangements; are unable to shoot due to medical reasons; are coaching a beginners' session; or have previously arranged a match with another challenger.
  5. Competitors shall participate in a minimum of one match for every three (3) weeks of competition, unless they are unable to do so through rankings position or for reasons outlined above. Competitors failing to comply with this rule will penalised by one (1) point for every week thereafter they fail to compete in a match.
  6. The number of arrows, size of target face, and distance shot during their match shall be identical for each competitor, and shall be agreed by the two parties before their match commences, with the minimum number of arrows shot for indoor matches being 12, and 24 for outdoor matches. If time constraints ensure that the agreed number of arrows shot will not be achieved in the time available, the number of arrows shot shall be the maximum number of arrows able to be shot by the official end of the club shooting session.

  7. Competitors may shoot up to a maximum of 9 arrows as 'sighters'.
  8. A handicap scoring scheme shall apply to all scores, which will be corrected by multiplying competitors’ average percentage score (derived by dividing their total score by the maximum score achievable) from previous matches or from the end of in the previous year’s Challenge Ladder Tournament, by the total maximum score available for the current match, to give an expected score. The total score achieved by each competitor in the match will be compared with their individual expected scores, the number of points above or below which will be their corrected score. The highest corrected score shall win the match. For example a competitor that has scored 200 points out of a maximum of 600 points will have an average of 33.3%, and in a match of 10 ends will be expected to score 100 points (33.3% x maximum of 300), and if the competitor scores 101, their corrected score would be +1, but if they score 99, their corrected score would be -1 (and would be beaten by an opponent whose corrected score is 0 or greater). Those competitors who have not taken part in the previous year’s Challenge Ladder Tournament shall be arbitrarily assigned a percentage score deemed to be approximately representative of their skill level, until they have shot more than two matches. Competitors’ scores will be closely monitored, and if the Tournament Organiser believes that a competitor is making a deliberate attempt to influence their average scores to gain handicap advantage, they shall be penalised.
  9. At the conclusion of each match, the competitor with the highest corrected score shall be awarded three (3) points towards their points’ total, whilst the competitor with the lowest corrected score shall be given one (1) point towards their points’ total. If the corrected scores are tied once both parties have shot the agreed number of arrows in their match, it shall be resolved by each competitor shooting an additional 'tie-break' end, and, if necessary, further 'tie-break' ends, until the tie is broken. If one or more competitors have the same number of points in the rankings, the tie shall be resolved by totalling the scores and corrected scores amassed by each competitor, with the highest score prevailing.
  10. Competitors shall inform the Tournament Organiser of the outcome of their match as soon as possible after its conclusion. If the Tournament Organiser is not present at a club shooting session for any reason, competitors may inform him or his nominated representative any time up to and including the next club shooting session at which he is present.
  11. The Tournament Organiser shall continually review the tournament rules, and, only if necessary to ensure the highest standards of transparency and fair play, may make additions or amendments to these rules, and shall highlight in italics recent rule additions or amendments on the copy of the rules displayed on the club website, for a minimum period of three weeks. Competitors who feel that such rule changes are prejudicial to the fair running of the tournament may appeal any such decision, rule addition, or amendment, to the Tournament Organiser and any other competitors also there assembled. If the majority deem that recent additions or amendments to these rules have been prejudicial to the fair running of the tournament, they may reverse the Tournament Organiser's position. The decision on appeal is final.

Competitors should consult the if they have any questions, comments, or complaints, about the tournament rules or rankings.
