Classification Rules

Excerpts reproduced from GNAS Shooting Administrative Procedures 2006

  1. Regulations for all Disciplines
    1. The use of the classification scheme by Clubs is optional and the administration of it, up to Bowman standard, shall be in the hands of the Club Officials. At Master Bowman, or equivalent, and above, the classification is ratified by GNAS centrally.
    2. Initial grading and subsequent upgrading occurs immediately the necessary scores have been made in the defined year.
    3. Apart from occasions when juniors become seniors or change age groups (see below), the qualification, as a minimum, holds for one year immediately following that in which it is gained. If it is not maintained during that year, reclassification shall be on the scores made during the year.
    4. An archer may hold different classifications in different archery disciplines
      1. An archer who has failed to reach the qualifying scores for the lowest classification grade shall be listed as unclassified (U/C).
      2. An archer who previously held a classification but failed to shoot the minimum number of rounds required to acquire a classification during the following defined year shall be listed as non-classified (N/C).

  2. Juniors
    1. When a junior reaches the age of the next higher age group (Target Archery) or becomes a senior (Target and Field Archery), the classification of Bowman/Junior Bowman, 1st, 2nd or 3rd Class will be assessed on the three best qualifying scores shot in the twelve months preceding the birthday date. If three rounds as nominated in the higher section have not been shot in the twelve months, the archer will be unclassified until the necessary rounds have been shot.
    2. A junior may hold both junior and senior classifications assessed independently, using the appropriate qualifying rounds and scores.

  3. Claims for Bowmen, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Class – All Disciplines
Claims for Bowmen, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Class in all disciplines should be dealt with by each club.

  4. Claims for Grand Master and Master, Junior and Senior, All Disciplines
    1. Archers achieving the performances required for Grand Master and Master, both Junior and Senior deserve widespread recognition of their achievements. Additionally, these performances need to be highlighted to GNAS. Therefore, claims for these awards are co-ordinated by GNAS.
    2. Claims for the title of Grand Master and Master both Junior and Senior in all disciplines as appropriate shall be submitted on the appropriate form to GNAS, as soon as possible after the achievement each year and in any case to be received by 31st December.
      The GNAS will:
      1. Confirm the validity of the claim.
      2. Notify the claimant and send him the appropriate badge, provided that an identical badge has not previously been issued to that archer for the same archery discipline and bowstyle.
      3. Publicise the award.
    3. It shall be the responsibility of the archer concerned to submit the claim together with the following documents of proof:
      1. Rounds Shot at Club Meetings - (This applies to Target Junior Master Bowman only)
The original score sheet endorsed by an Officer of the Club to the effect that the Round was shot at a Club Tournament or Target Day.
      2. Rounds Shot at any Other Meeting
The official Result Sheet sent out by the Organiser(s) of the Meeting.
    4. The claim shall include a certificate defining the style of bow the archer was shooting.
