Island Archers Matchplay 'Box' League

A box league, which is so named due to the fact that scores are sometimes reported in a grid-like box format, is a way of motivating club archers to get out and experience archery matchplay with other players of a similar skill level. Participating archers are split into small groups ('boxes') of 4 competitors of approximately equal skill level that compete amongst themselves during each competition round.
At the end of each competiton round, the winner in each box moves up to a more challenging box for the next round, while the loser moves down to an easier box, and thereby each archer will generally find themself competing in matches (which should only take approximately half an hour each) against archers of a similar standard.

Competition Rules 2011-2012

  1. The Competition shall run continually between the 00:01hrs on 1st November 2011 and 23:59hrs on 14th December 2012.
    1. Initial rankings shall be taken from a ranking of archers' best Portsmouth round scores shot during the month of October 2011.
    2. If competitors are unable to submit a Portsmouth round score during the month of October 2011, or join the competition during or after the first cycle, they shall be placed in the highest-most empty slot below those who are already entered into the competition.
    3. The end-of-year rankings may be used to derive the seedings for the Club's head-to-head championships, which shall be shot at the end of each year.
  1. The rankings shall be divided into divisions of four archers
    1. The lowest-most division may consist of less than four archers if there are insufficient numbers of archers to make up a full division.
  1. During each round of the competition, archers shall shoot matches against all opponents in their division
    1. For each round of the competiton, a match schedule, and current standings shall be recorded in a ladder format on the Club's website.
    2. All matches shall be shot to within the same calendar month.
    3. Competitors shall be awarded one league point for each match won.
    4. Where competitors are unable to shoot a match against each other, they may, by mutual consent, reschedule their match to another, more suitable date within the same calendar month.
    5. If a competitor is unable to shoot their match within the calendar month, their average set (end) score for matches shot during that month's league competition, rounded up to the nearest whole number, shall, in their absence, be used as their score for each end of the match, and their opponent may shoot as many ends as necessary to resolve the match. If the match remains tied at the end of four sets, the tie shall be broken by the toss of a coin.
    6. If both archers are unable to reschedule the match to a more suitable date within the calendar month, neither shall receive any points for the scheduled match.
  1. Matches shall be shot to FITA matchplay rules as described in FITA rules book 2 (outdoor archery) rules 7.6.1.4.1 and 7.6.1.4.2, and FITA rules book 3 (indoor archery) rules 8.6.1.4.1 and 8.6.1.4.2. Matchplay rules summary for non-'finals' matches:-
