Venues and Times

The times of club shooting sessions are normally:-
Indoors (year-round), or outdoors (summer), 7pm to 8.30pm every Wednesday evening.


We normally post if a club shooting session is cancelled or moved to a different venue(provided we know in advance, that is!) as well as the times, venues, and scheduled rounds of club 'target days' on the Club Matters page, although please feel free to contact us to confirm venue and times if you're unsure!

Indoor - primary venue - Nicolson Institute Assembly Hall

We mostly shoot in the main assembly hall at the Nicolson Institute on Springfield Road, Stornoway.

Springfield Road itself is divided into two by a line of bollards, so you will need to approach from the Matheson Road end. Once in Springfield Road, take the first entrance on the left, and follow the driveway round a short series of bends until you get to the car park in the Nicolson's centre courtyard. In the far right hand corner, there's some steps (and a ramp) down to a set of doors, and if you go through these, the main assembly hall is just on your right hand side. Ranges up to 25m.

Indoor - alternative venue - Matheson Hall

Occasionally, we shoot in the Nicolson Institute's Matheson Hall, also on Springfield Road, Stornoway, when the main assembly hall is being used by the Institute itself.

Approach Springfield Road from the Matheson Road end, as per the above instructions, and take the first entrance on the right, and turn immediately right, following the drive a very short distance to the car park. The entrance to the Matheson Hall is fairly obvious, so go through two doors (being careful when going through the second door, as there may be people shooting immediately inside the door! Space is more limited, but ample for 6-8 archers. Ranges up to 15m

Outdoor Venue

Owing to minor but unfortunate circumstances, we're currently no longer able to use the outside venue we were using previously when the weather co-operated, and are currently, once again looking for another, slightly more suitable venue.

The venue move, when it happens, will hopefully only be a temporary measure, as we're currently involved with a major new state-of-the-art project which, it is hoped, will give us ranges of up to 90m and beyond, with a covered shooting line accommodating approximately 24 archers shooting concurrently, as well as toilet and catering facilities. We're hoping that the new venue will be ready by 2009. Check back here for more details as soon as they're finalised!
